Another sandy title… Male homosexuality does seem to occur with frequency on and/or near the beach within the spatial logic of the pulp genre… I’m thinking it has to do with partial nudity, which as we know, makes gay happen.
There’s probably something else there about the ‘liminal’ space of the beach (as temporary, shifting etc), but for now we shall assume that in the imagination of the pulp writers and artists: Beach = nudity = gay.
